Union, Constituents to Protest Anti-Worker Jackson, Michigan Lawmaker
Rally outside Rep. Walberg's Michigan office to highlight harmful legislative agenda
JACKSON, Mich., Aug. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Constituents from U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg's congressional district will join with leaders from the nation's largest federal employee union to protest the congressman's anti-worker legislative agenda on Tuesday.
The American Federation of Government Employees is organizing the rally outside Rep. Walberg's office to bring attention to policies being championed by the legislator that would harm federal employees and constituents in Michigan and across the country. AFGE is holding the rally in collaboration with We are the People, a diverse coalition of students, seniors, workers, families and organizations fighting to protect Michigan's middle class.
Rep. Walberg has voted to cut 10 percent of all federal jobs in Michigan and across the country. This would mean a loss of nearly 750 jobs in his district or $30 million in lost revenue. He has also supported policies to cut funding for programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid while rejecting efforts raise revenue by increasing taxes on the wealthiest Americans and corporations.
