ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Your weekly grocery store shopping trip could help make local parks and communities in Ariz., Calif., and Nev. greener this fall. The new "Buy any Three, Give a Tree" program gives shoppers the opportunity to help their local communities, one trip to the grocery store at a time. From September 26 to October 10, Fresh & Easy shoppers who purchase any three participating Unilever food brands including Breyers®, Ben & Jerry's®, Best Foods®, Wish-Bone®, Ragu® and Skippy®, will receive 33 percent off instantly[1]. For each purchase of three participating items, Unilever and Fresh & Easy will donate a tree to the local community in partnership with Arbor Day Foundation (up to 25,000 trees).
"At Unilever, we're committed to sustainable living and making a difference in our local communities," says Paul Bello, vice president of grocery for Unilever. "This partnership not only supports our larger Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, but it also allows us to provide consumers with great savings and support for a great cause such as the Arbor Day Foundation. By simply shopping for brands they love, our consumers in Arizona, California and Nevada are helping their local communities become more environmentally friendly."
At the conclusion of the promotion, Unilever, Fresh & Easy and the Arbor Day Foundation will host a tree-planting ceremony with trees donated from the "Buy any Three, Give a Tree" program. Planting trees in local communities helps to reduce air pollution, absorb carbon dioxide and control storm water runoff[2].
"This initiative is a great opportunity for Fresh & Easy to come together with Unilever and the Arbor Day Foundation, and engage our customers and neighbors for a good environmental cause," says Tim Mason, CEO of Fresh & Easy. "Our commitment to the environment extends beyond just our stores and we're excited to see the impact planting trees can have on the neighborhoods we serve."
Launched in November 2010, the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan provides Unilever with a roadmap to sustainable growth. For more information on the "Buy any Three, Give a Tree" initiative, visit Facebook.com/freshandeasy.
