Understanding the importance of stress-relaxation in plastics
ORLANDO, Fla., March 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Among Bayer's contributions at ANTEC® 2015, Pierre Moulinie, global technology lead for polycarbonates consumer and medical sector, will present Stress-relaxation of Polycarbonate Resins, which he co-authored with Steven Owens, Daniel Williams and Dr. Yong Zhao. ANTEC® 2015, the Society of Plastics Engineers' Annual Technical Conference, will take place in Orlando from March 23-25 and will be co-located with NPE 2015.
During this presentation, Moulinie will describe the results of stress-relaxation experiments they conducted with several materials. "There is surprisingly little data on stress-relaxation of polymers in the literature, yet it was critical to recent collaborative work we've been doing with customers and we decided to take a closer look," said Moulinie.
"What we learned surprised us. ANTEC® continues to be an important event for us to engage fellow plastics engineers, and we felt that sharing what we learned would benefit the technical community," he continued.
Their findings suggest that stress-relaxation is not significant for Bayer's polycarbonate/polyester blends, while it may be significant for other resins. Bayer researchers are also looking into whether there is a connection between stress-relaxation and how some materials perform during chemical-resistance testing.
The findings presented at ANTEC® underscore Bayer's commitment to scientific research and are just the latest illustration of how the company's scientists are respected by their peers worldwide for their contributions to science and engineering conferences and journals.
