The Sixth Astana Economic Forum will boast an event within an event that has the potential to generate international headlines - a United Nations-sanctioned conference on the global financial crisis.
That is the World Anti-Crisis Conference.
Vuk Jeremic, president of the United Nations General Assembly, will be one of those playing a key role at the conference, whose aim is to find more effective ways to address the world's ongoing economic crisis. Another important player will be Wu Hongbo, the United Nations' Undersecretary General for Economic and Social Affairs.
Among the notables who have committed to coming to the Sixth Astana Economic Forum and the World Anti-Crisis Conference are 10 Nobel Prize winners; Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan; Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski; Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan; former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi; former Dutch Prime Minister Wim Kok; the secretary general of the Boao Forum, Zhou Wenzhong; the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Noeleen Heyzer; and the executive director of the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee.
Altogether, for this moment the number of confirmed participants includes 35 active and former government ministers and more than 40 leaders of international organizations, corporations and businesses.
The latest Forum and the conference are expected to draw the largest number of participants yet - 8,500 people from 100 countries.
Topics that this year's Forum will be addressing include:
1. Perspectives for global economic growth and the price of raw materials in 2013.
2. Infrastructure and innovative technologies.
3. Competitiveness in international markets.
4. Social implications of economic growth.
5. Financial systems: global risks and ways to prevent economic crises.
