COLLEGE PARK, Md., May 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business will connect its students with accomplished leaders from a diversity of industries when it hosts a Dedication to Community (D2C) Tour event on Oct. 8, 2014.
This forum will involve more than 300 Smith undergrads. Participating executives will give them insight to promote ethics and build self-empowerment and awareness of how business connects to the community.
Those panelists will include:
- Ed Fantegrossi, CEO, Geographic Network Affiliates-International
- Ed Foster-Simeon, president and CEO, U.S. Soccer Foundation
- Jennifer Pogorelec O'Sullivan, Esq., general counsel, RSE Ventures
- Octavius (Ted) Reid III, senior vice president and wealth advisor, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney
- Eve Wright, vice president and associate general counsel, NBA's Miami Heat
"The tour provides an opportunity for Smith students to engage in a deeply substantive dialogue with world-class business leaders who have reached the pinnacle of success in their respective industries," said Victor Mullins, associate dean of the undergraduate program. "Our students will hear personal stories with concrete examples of how entrepreneurship, risk, hard work, leadership and social responsibility directed the D2C panelists to 'success' – a term that is not defined solely by the accumulation of wealth, but also includes the achievement of career and personal goals while maintaining a strong commitment to family and community."
The D2C tour was created by M. Quentin Williams, an attorney, business advisor and crisis management consultant with more than 25 years of legal and business expertise in the sports, entertainment, media, technology and law enforcement industries.
"The D2C team and I are excited to bring our tour to the University of Maryland," said Williams. "Empowering society is our mission, and UMD is a perfect fit for our next stop, especially given Dr. Mullins' forward-thinking educational and business strategies."
Previous campus stops include Springfield (Mass.) Technical Community College, St. John's University and Seton Hall University.
"D2C will equip students with the skills necessary to be successful in business, and empower them to make a positive impact in the community," said Khalil Pettus, president of the Smith Undergraduate Student Association, which is coordinating the event.
The D2C tour has "generated anticipation that Smith undergraduates will be impacted by Quentin – a well-respected attorney -- and his team," Mullins said. "By assembling this diverse group of panelists, Quentin drives home the point to students that they must be self-starters who create their own opportunities while maintaining a clear perspective on that which is in the greater interest of society."
