UMD-Smith Appoints New Executive Director of Career Services
COLLEGE PARK, Md., Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business has named Patricia Buchek Reich the new assistant dean and executive director of the Office of Career Services. Reich takes over in the role following a national search.
Reich comes to the Smith School from Georgetown's McDonough School of Business, where she was a senior assistant dean of the MBA Career Center and director of executive career development. In her 10 years at McDonough, she served in various roles in the school's career center with increasing responsibilities. She led many innovative initiatives, including structuring strategic organizational change, establishing the first-ever back office operations team at the center, pioneering new recruiting technologies, and championing "smart" employer portfolios. She has worked extensively with business students from all over the world – both in the U.S. and abroad – contributing to her deep appreciation for diverse, global perspectives.
"My goal is for every Smith student to graduate with a cap, a gown and a great job," said Reich. "I am most excited to see how we can lead in a market where traditional business models are disrupted by amazing technology advances and entrepreneurial endeavors. A credit to our faculty, I think Smith graduates are prime for those opportunities. I'm looking forward to representing the Smith brand and working hard with the talented Office of Career Services team and the accomplished alumni community to position Smith talent in the best jobs and internships."
Reich holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and politics from Catholic University and an executive master's degree in leadership from Georgetown. She is a Certified Career Management Coach and Certified Personal Brand Strategist. She is also currently pursuing her certification in Leadership Coaching at Georgetown's Institute for Transformational Leadership.
Reich previously worked with Smith School students from 2003-2006 as a contractor with the executive search firm Stanton Chase, implementing an innovative coaching initiative that helped full-time MBA students land top jobs.
"The Smith School is committed to supporting our students to launch great careers, and we are excited for Patricia to bring her passion for this mission to our School," said Alexander Triantis, dean of the Smith School. "Patricia will build on the significant accomplishments of the Office of Career Services under the leadership of Jeff Kudisch over the past seven years, connecting our talented students to great job opportunities in our expanding employer community."
Kudisch, a clinical professor in Smith's department of Management and Organization, returns to his faculty role after nearly seven years at the helm of Career Services and serving as Smith's Assistant Dean of Corporate Relations. Reich expressed her appreciation for his leadership of the organization she inherits.
