Ultra Mobile Hires Chuck Harvey as Chief Information Officer
Veteran telecom industry IT leader bolsters executive team
COSTA MESA, Calif., March 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ultra Mobile, the premier mobile operator known for keeping people connected with families and friends overseas, today announced the appointment of Chuck Harvey as its new Chief Information Officer.
Harvey is a veteran telecom industry IT executive whose extensive experience with enabling technology in the wireless post-paid, pre-paid and MVNO space is particularly applicable to his new role at Ultra Mobile. He will support Ultra Mobile's technology capabilities to ensure high availability of mission-critical systems and will lead the development and delivery of the company's future deployments of technology.
Ultra Mobile focuses on the estimated 40 million foreign-born people living in the United States who regularly call or text internationally. Its international services include pre-paid calling plans that start as low as $19 per month with unlimited international calling to select countries.
Harvey's wireless career started at Nextel Communications where he led the post-merger IT integration with Sprint Corporation and developed a plan for the combined companies' CIOs aimed at achieving $1 billion in synergies.
Then, as head of technology and part of the leadership team at Boost Mobile, Harvey built the technology strategy for the Sprint-Nextel owned subsidiary, allowing the company to scale to more than 5 million customers. At Boost he designed and built a state-of-the-art pre-paid billing and customer-care platform, a technology capability that was strategic in deploying differentiated services for the brand.
"Chuck's unique combination of wireless and mobile-application experience in MVNOs positions him to deliver on Ultra Mobile's strategy to build a world-class technology team that can help scale our business to millions of customers," said Ultra Mobile CEO David Glickman.
Before joining Ultra Mobile, Harvey was with another pre-paid wireless carrier for five years – Cricket Communications – where he held the CIO title and had technology responsibilities that included the development of Muve Music, a subscription music service in the company's startup division that was offered on both iOS and Android platforms by Cricket Wireless in the U.S. and a Telecom Italia subsidiary in Brazil.
