NORTHBROOK, Ill., Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science leader, has announced today that it is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its online collaboration tool, CSDS (Collaborative Standards Development System).
On Oct. 29, 2004, UL Standards launched a groundbreaking new collaboration platform for standards development: http://csds.ul.com. At the time, CSDS was revolutionary in its approach for facilitating the development of consensus standards on-line. With CSDS, a proposal could be submitted by anyone, at any time, from anywhere around the globe, with each participant observing the complete consensus process, from proposal to publication.
CSDS introduced features such as on-line balloting, comment submission, and comment resolution, allowing users instant access to participate in the development of new requirements and real-time collaboration on proposals. This enabled UL to redesign its standards development program to be more efficient and reach stakeholders globally. For a decade, CSDS has provided for open, balanced participation in the consensus process and notification about meetings with stakeholders for UL, ULC, UL Environment and other partners.
On this 10th anniversary, we thank those involved not only in the development of CSDS, but to those who have been participating and sharing feedback over the years. We are proud to share our success in engaging stakeholders across the globe toward our mission in advancing safety science and working for a safer world.
