UHS-Pruitt Corporation Chairman & C.E.O. - Neil Pruitt, Jr. Appointed To Commission On Long-Term Care
NORCROSS, Ga., Feb. 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UHS-Pruitt Corporation Chairman & C.E.O. Neil L. Pruitt, Jr. was appointed today by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) to serve on the newly-created national Commission on Long-Term Care. "I am truly honored by this selection," said Pruitt, "I've seen firsthand how post-acute care has become vital to the long-term care continuum, and I will do my absolute best to continue the preservation and advancement of quality care for those in need. I believe that we have an opportunity with this Commission to reach new pinnacles in caring for our nation's seniors, and that means also finding ways to keep Medicare and Medicaid funding financially secure. I look forward to working with my fellow commissioners in the development of a patient-focused plan for a comprehensive, coordinated, and high-quality system that ensures the availability of long-term services for current and future generations."

Created by the American Tax Relief Act of 2012, which was passed as a result of the fiscal cliff negotiations, the 15-member Commission is chartered with developing a plan to establish, finance and properly implement a high-quality system that ensures the availability of long term services for seniors and persons with disabilities. Specifically, the Commission has six months to address challenges facing the long term care workforce as well as the present demands on the profession, including:
- The role of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance and their interaction;
- Improvements in existing programs necessary to ensure the continued availability of long term services and supports;
- Proper training and development of the workforce to ensure quality care;
- Gaps in federal and state structures that prevent the delivery of these services.
Mr. Pruitt, who is also Chairman of the American Health Care Association (AHCA) works closely with Governor Mark Parkinson, President and CEO of the AHCA, who also commented on the new Commission: "I commend Senator McConnell and leaders in the House and Senate on their selections. Each of the appointed individuals brings a unique perspective to a challenge that promises only to grow in complexity and costs unless we as a nation get serious about workable solutions. This panel has much work to do, and we stand ready to help Neil and every Commission member with this important charge."
