PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa., March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wendell W. Young IV, President of UFCW Local 1776, issued the following statement in wake of Gov. Tom Wolf's budget address:
"Governor Wolf recognizes the PA Liquor Control Board (PLCB) is a strong, profitable asset that can do even more for every single taxpayer. His modernization proposals would improve customer convenience, helping the agency generate profits and revenues that would result in billions of additional dollars over time to aid unfunded pension liabilities."
Young added, "The governor is living up to the commitments he made during the history-making campaign for office. He promised Pennsylvanians that he would fight for middle class, working families by making our tax system fairer and he said he would restore the devastating cuts to public education. This is exactly the type of leadership that Pennsylvanians expected – and deserve."
Young noted that common sense modernization proposals have bipartisan support in the House and Senate.
"Consumers want more convenience and our members are ready to help make that happen. It's time for the agency to be able to expand Sunday stores and hours. Consumers have every right to expect home delivery of wine. We can place more stores inside of or next to grocery stores and or beer distributors," Young added. "Now is the time to modernize this asset so it can do even more."
