UFCW Local 951 Endorses Lon Johnson for U.S. Congress
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 951 announced its support of Lon Johnson for Congress in Michigan's First Congressional District.
"Lon is a smart, hardworking, innovative and progressive leader who cares deeply about the state, making life better for all its residents, and rebuilding our government to become as hardworking and honest as the people who pay for it," said John Cakmakci, UFCW 951 president. "I got to know Lon during his 2012 campaign for State Representative. The local endorsed his candidacy, and myself and other members actively campaigned for him."
For more than 20 years, Johnson has served in critical strategic roles for political campaigns and committees, advocacy organizations and businesses, including key positions at the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and Congressman John Dingell's 2002 campaign. In 2012, he ran for the Michigan State House of Representatives in the 103rd District, and received more than 47 percent of the vote in a Republican district. Most recently, Johnson was the Michigan Democratic Party Chairman.
"Lon believes in hard work, playing by the rules and never giving up. Those are the kind of values we need in someone representing the people of Michigan in Washington, D.C.," Cakmakci said. "Lon will put those values toward creating a northern Michigan where people and families can succeed."
