Udemy Launches Comprehensive Suite of New Manager Training Courses
LearnSmart Courses Help Ensure Success As Companies Hire and Promote New Managers
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Udemy, the global marketplace for learning and teaching online, announced it launched a series of manager training courses from LearnSmart, one of the most widely used learning providers of soft skills training. The training courses are available to any customers of Udemy for Business, Udemy's online training platform for businesses, and cover the topics such as transitioning to management, mentoring, and managing technical professionals.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, US employers added 321,000 jobs in November, making 2014 the best year for job gains since 1999. With that growth, US companies are bringing on and promoting new managers quickly, many of whom have zero management experience. Furthermore, many new managers are in their 20's and 30's, making them part of the "millennial generation." All this has created the need for comprehensive training tailored toward new, younger managers to ensure they are in the best position to lead and grow their teams.
"The economy is rebounding and many companies are experiencing rapid growth and promoting new managers quickly," said Paul Sebastien, GM and VP at Udemy. "Training a new workforce has become a huge burden, and the stakes are too high for sporadic, in-person training of inconsistent quality. Udemy for Business is adding the LearnSmart courses so companies can get new managers up-to-speed and scale their businesses most effectively. We pride ourselves on responding to the critical needs of our customers by continuing to add the content they need to take their business to the next level."
According to Bersin by Deloitte, equipping new managers with the essential management skills they need to succeed can help improve business results by 21 percent. This is even more critical for fast-growing companies, many of which have limited training programs in place to date. The more than 30 LearnSmart courses cover many essential new manager skills, including transitioning into management, how to run a team meeting, working with cross-generational teams, how to effectively delegate, and managing contractors. Udemy's courses can be taken on desktop PCs or mobile devices, in pieces and over time, allowing employees to take the courses when and how they want.
"We partnered with Udemy because they constantly provide the relevant content we need to stay competitive," said Jeff Revoy, CEO at Viralheat. "These management courses are a great example of Udemy's marketplace platform, that ensures content that meets our unique needs is constantly being added. We have experienced tremendous growth at Viralheat, and are pushing all of our managers to take the new LearnSmart courses from Udemy immediately, to ensure they are well equipped to lead and grow our company."
