UCLA Longevity Center to Honor Jane Fonda, James A. Collins and Dr. Bradley R. Straatsma at 20th Annual ICON Awards

LOS ANGELES, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The UCLA Longevity Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing and extending productive and healthy lives through research and education, honors two-time Academy Award winning actress Jane Fonda, entrepreneur and philanthropist James A. Collins and Founding Director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, Bradley R. Straatsma, M.D., J.D. at its 20th Anniversary ICON Awards Gala, June 4th at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. Jennifer Lopez will present. Tony award-winning actor Jason Alexander hosts and will perform. Louise Horvitz, PSVD and Timothy J. Noonan, co-chair. Scott Mauro produces the event which also serves as the formal dedication of the Center's new name, from UCLA Center on Aging to UCLA Longevity Center.
Jane Fonda will receive this year's 2011 ICON Award. A two-time Academy Award winner for her memorable performances in "Klute" and "Coming Home." She revolutionized the fitness industry in the 80's with the release of "Jane Fonda's Workout."
Recipient of this year's Art Linkletter Lifetime Achievement Award, James Collins began his career in the restaurant business with one hamburger stand and went on to become one of the largest franchisees of Kentucky Fried Chicken and owner of the Sizzler Steak House restaurants. In 1968, he formed Collins Foods International, a public company, which he sold in 1999. He remains as the company's chairman emeritus
Bradley R. Straatsma, M.D., J.D., recipient of the Distinguished Scholar in Science & Medicine Award, is Founding Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology and Founding Director, Jules Stein Eye Institute, the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is the recipient of more than 75 medals and awards and has authored more than 550 scientific publications.
