LOS ANGELES, Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Fall quarter courses begin on Sept. 25 at UCLA Extension, as the division of continuing education at the University of California at Los Angeles celebrates its 100 years (1917-2017) as a Southern California institution.
Known for its open enrollment, professional continuing education programs, the institution's centennial spotlights new programs and initiatives as it enters a bold new era in education UCLA Extension has 90,000 enrollments, more than 180 certificates, and 30,000 students, annually. Courses are offered quarterly on the UCLA Campus in Westwood, Downtown Los Angeles, Woodland Hills and online.
"We celebrate not only a century of growth and achievement, but look to the future where lifelong learning has become the norm for students and professionals," says Wayne Smutz, Dean of Continuing Education and UCLA Extension. "Our goal is to reimagine learning to create new horizons, new educational opportunities, and continue our dedicated service by extending our reach locally, nationally, and globally."
New fall programs at UCLA Extension include digital storytelling, environmental studies and sustainability, and global marketing, along with popular certificates in accounting and finance, interior design, project management, entertainment studies and more. Classes start on Monday, Sept. 25.
New UCLA Extension initiatives in 2017 include Silicon Beach Innovation Lab (SBILab), a tech entrepreneurship membership program; a new center in Woodland Hills at Warner Center Towers with twelve (12) state-of-the art classrooms; and collaborations with partners such as IBM, Town Hall of Los Angeles and Goodwill Industries. UCLA Extension plans to continue its celebration until 2019, in step with UCLA's 100 years, (1919-2019).
Student success stories are a significant part of the centennial celebration. UCLA Extension is highlighting stories of alumni and instructors whose lives have been transformed by continuing education.
