UC San Diego International Center Partners With Globaltel Media to Keep College Community Connected
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Globaltel Media today announced that The UC San Diego International Center is using patent-pending technologies from Globaltel Media to provide students with the ability to receive the latest news and updates from the International Center Club, special announcements from International Center staff, and emergency alerts on any U.S. mobile cellular device.
"The average cell phone user under 30 years of age sends eight texts for every voice call they make," said Robert Sanchez, CEO and president of Globaltel Media. "Integrating text messaging into the communications mix allows the UC San Diego International Center to reach individuals on the wireless devices they never leave home without. Additionally, the university is providing a convenient service to students and staff, with tools that allow UC San Diego to build a loyal following of mobile users and increase the impact of its existing programs and offerings."
This exclusive communication system allows any mobile user to control when, how and where they receive and request campus news. The program also enables UC San Diego staff to gather information from opted-in wireless users to improve future messaging programs.
"Starting with our International Center and now offered for use with multiple on-campus organizations, the Globaltel Media solution is a great alternative as a notification and communication tool here at UC San Diego," said Lynn C. Anderson, Director of the International Center at UC San Diego. "The ease of use and ability to customize individual campaigns is enabling the International Center community to stay better connected, whether it is for urgent notifications, IC events, club activities or internal communications."
There is no cost to join UC San Diego's text message alert program, yet standard text messages rates do apply. Users can elect to self-register for any of a number of program-specific text message lists by sending designated keywords via text to a permanent five-digit shortcode. Once registered, these mobile users receive updates, news, special offers, event alerts and more from the programs or departments they want to hear from. As a permission-based technology, mobile users can opt-out at anytime by simply replying "STOP" to any UC San Diego text message.
