IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of California, Irvine Extension is offering a brand new Certificate Program in Sustainable Solutions and Practices. The new program is in response to increasing demand for professionals with experience in community and global sustainability issues. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the program will teach students to combine the elements of sustainable development, sociological awareness and environmentalism with business management, leadership and reporting strategies. This program is intended for those employed in the sustainability field, managers, directors, analysts, architects, urban planners, landscape architects, designers, business owners, consultants and all those interested in sustainability for future generations.
"Modern sustainability reaches far beyond going green," said Angela Jeantet, director of Education and Business Programs at UC Irvine Extension. "Many businesses are now realizing it's a constantly evolving field with so many facets in today's society, and there is a need for professionals who understand the many intricacies. The new Sustainable Solutions and Practices Certificate Program will answer that need with graduates who are well versed in a variety of sustainability topics, from a real-world, business-applicable standpoint."
This upcoming fall, Macro-Sustainability: Global Awareness will be offered as an online course starting Sept. 23 and ending Dec.15. This newly crafted course will focus on global and national sustainability challenges and discuss the interrelated drivers, principles and practices that can lead to a more sustainable world. Participants will better understand the root causes of issues such as environmental degradation, climate change, pollution and waste, increasing resource consumption and short-sighted economic and political policies.
