IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fall 2015 quarter, the University of California, Irvine Extension is launching a new fully online Applied Accounting Certificate Program for students to gain knowledge in accounting standards and principles needed to perform and accomplish fundamental tasks of the occupation. Program participants will acquire a comprehensive set of accounting competencies, interpreting and creating financial statements and reports for use in making business decisions. The program is beneficial for recent college graduates planning to pursue a career in accounting. The curriculum is also developed for those who are in the workforce working towards a career as an accounting/finance manager, budget/financial analyst, internal auditor, or a professional considering a CPA certification. This program meets the educational requirements for students who are preparing to sit for the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA Exam).
"The new Applied Accounting Certificate Program answers the increasing demand for programs that enhance a professional's skills and/or prepare some for a new career," said Angela Jeantet, director of education and business programs at UC Irvine Extension. "Courses are taught by top-notch industry professionals that will provide participants with valuable real-world experience."
The two courses being offered in the fall include:
- Principles of Accounting (starts Sept. 21) – Participants will explore the role of accounting and financial statements in business. An overview of accounting and its relation to law, finance, economics, and management decision making is also part of the curriculum.
- Management Accounting (starts Sept. 21) – Course covers an introduction to the role of accounting in making management decisions. Topics include planning, costing, budgeting, and analysis of business performance.
