Legal Professional to Guide Growth of School's Law and Finance Departments
IRVINE, Calif., Oct.19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- University of California, Irvine Extension, the continuing education unit of UC Irvine, announced the appointment of Ian Gibson, Esq. as the director of law and finance programs. Gibson will oversee the development and promotion of new legal and financial programs, as well as the continued management and optimization of department resources and policies to ensure that all curriculum components complement today's marketplace needs.
"Ian's impressive background in law and business will serve as a crucial asset to our growing law, finance and leadership programs," said Gary W. Matkin, Ph.D., dean of Continuing Education, Distance Learning and Summer Session. "His expertise will contribute immensely to the UC Irvine Extension community as the school continues to expand while providing innovative course offerings with high quality education."
Prior to joining UC Irvine Extension, Gibson was a practicing civil attorney with the highly regarded intellectual property firm, One LLP. Gibson's legal practice primarily focused on litigation and transactional matters in copyright, trademark, and entertainment law. He represented a broad variety of clients including internationally known illustrators, photographers, film production companies, musicians, and technology firms. Before entering his legal career, Gibson was a successful session musician and composer, performing on live network television and an Emmy award-winning soundtrack.
In addition, Gibson also serves as a founding member of the Board of Directors for 1888, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and promotion of cultural heritage and literary arts in Orange County. While earning his law degree from Chapman University School of Law, Gibson served as Vice President of the Entertainment and Sports Law Society and received numerous CALI Awards for earning the top grade in various courses. Prior to law school, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California.
