IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Entertainment is now an integral part of event management, dramatically boosting engagement and success, serving as a differentiator, and creating a link between the event and the memory for attendees. Event planners, meeting management professionals, and anyone tasked with organizing events has learned that entertaining the crowd is as important as making sure that sufficient parking and seating are provided. To help professionals achieve the ideal blend of entertainment and event planning, the University of California, Irvine Extension announces the new online course, "Entertainment Arts in Events," as part of its expanding Meeting and Event Management Specialized Studies Program. Registration is now available, with the course scheduled to run from Monday, Feb. 9 through Sunday, March 22.
"In today's crowded marketplace, where meeting planners are organizing events every day of the week, professionals must possess the skills and know-how to create and execute events that achieve the goals of the business or organization," said Stephane Muller, director of business programs at UC Irvine Extension. "Participants of this course will learn to utilize entertainment to draw the desired response from event attendees. Participants also have the added benefit of learning from accomplished, award-winning industry leader Susan T. Lee, M.A., M.B.A. – who will share her deep subject matter expertise."
Participants will learn how to develop special event strategies integrating entertainment as an element, and review how the roles of talent management, agencies, talent, the show director, technical director and the production team all interface with the meeting planner. The course will also offer participants an opportunity to learn more about entertainment contracting procedures, industry terminology, effective communication tools and how to design and present an entertaining and creative show.
Course instructor Lee is a professional writer, producer and director of special events ranging from entertainment spectaculars, government conferences, corporate meetings, award ceremonies, team retreats, sports half-time and pre-game shows, fashion shows, fundraising galas, theatricals, product launches and private celebrations. She is the winner of six national awards and has more than 15 years of experience in the industry working with a variety of clients, including Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Company, Hard Rock, Animal Planet, Queen Mary, Wounded Warrior Project, Children's Miracle Network and The United States Government.
