UBTECH Education and Pitsco Education Team Up to Help Prepare Students for Future Careers through STEM Learning and Computer Science
Starting in January 2019, Pitsco will be UBTECH Education's national distribution partner, working closely with districts to launch UKITs and Yanshee in K-12 classrooms
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- UBTECH Education, a division of UBTECH Robotics dedicated to promoting STEM and computer science (STEM+C) education through interactive robotics, and Pitsco Education today announced a partnership agreement to provide districts access to UBTECH's UKIT solutions, the Yanshee humanoid educational robot, a Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)–designed supplemental curriculum, and professional development offerings.
Pitsco's STEM offerings promote relevant learning experiences and develop 21st-century soft skills. Pitsco is well known for its high-level partnerships with some of the industry's most esteemed organizations, including the Partnership for 21st Century Learning, CASEL, FIRST®, National Instruments, and regional STEM ecosystems.
"Pitsco has a stellar track record providing K–12 CTE and STEM leaders with innovative solutions backed by best-in-class customer support, which makes them an exceptional strategic partner," said John Rhee, general manager of UBTECH North America. "This alliance places UKITs and Yanshee within the larger STEM ecosystem, and it will help us gain valuable insights as we continue to develop our robotics technology and curricula in a way that best serves teachers and students."
"UBTECH develops some of the most engaging and age-appropriate robotics and coding solutions available in education, bridging the digital-physical interface," added Pitsco Education's executive vice president and chief strategy officer, Stephan Turnipseed. "By starting at an early age and building toward mastery, UBTECH and Pitsco are meeting the challenges of today by equipping the children of tomorrow with the mind-set, skill set, and tool set for success."
UBTECH Education's UKIT solution combines hands-on, modular robotics construction with a classroom-friendly software application that provides easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, as well as 360-degree, 3D modeling tools, so students can quickly get started and immerse themselves in science and engineering projects. Three leveled UKITs—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—are carefully constructed to introduce, reinforce, and build toward mastery in STEM and computer science concepts, from the elementary grades through high school.
In addition, the UKIT Beginner and Intermediate sets include a hands-on STEM+C curriculum designed around the NGSS's three-dimensional model, integrating scientific and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas, and crosscutting concepts. Architected by NGSS authors and reviewers, the UKIT curriculum takes a project-based approach, cultivating 21st-century skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, creativity, teamwork, and use of technology.
Yanshee, UBTECH's 15-inch, open-source educational robot, delivers flexible computer science education by allowing students to program it in multiple languages, including Java, C, C++, Blockly, Perl, and Python®. Yanshee comes fully assembled and is capable of giving personalized responses—facial, voice, and gesture recognition—that are more advanced than any competition currently on the market.
