U. S. Steel Names Robert J. Beltz Vice President-Commercial, Europe
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) announced today that Robert J. Beltz has been named vice president-commercial, Europe. Beltz succeeds Peter J. Alvarado, who has concluded his assignment in Europe and is returning to the United States to a role that will be announced in the near future. Beltz will report to George F. Babcoke, senior vice president-European operations & president-U. S. Steel Kosice. The appointment was effective Feb. 1.
Beltz, 41, assumes responsibility for all commercial activity related to U. S. Steel's European operations. Beltz joined the company in 1990 as a management associate in accounting and finance. After spending two years in the audit department, he moved into the company's commercial organization in 1993 and advanced through increasingly responsible positions over the next 14 years, including managerial roles in automotive sales and marketing at U. S. Steel's Automotive Center in Troy, Mich.
In February 2007, Beltz relocated to the company's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh when he was named director-market analysis and strategy. Later that year, he advanced to director-industry marketing. He assumed his most recent position, general manager-North American flat-rolled marketing, in April 2008.
Beltz is a native of Canonsburg, Pa., and graduated from Duquesne University in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan-Flint in 1997.
Beltz and his wife, Rebecca, will relocate to the Slovak Republic and be based at U. S. Steel Kosice.
