U. S. Steel Names Kurt A. Barshick General Manager-Tubular Operations
PITTSBURGH, May 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Steel Corporation (NYSE: X) today announced that Kurt A. Barshick has been advanced to the position of general manager – tubular operations effective May 1, 2012. In this position, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations at four of U. S. Steel's tubular products manufacturing facilities: Fairfield Tubular Operations in Fairfield, Ala.; Lorain Tubular Operations in Lorain, Ohio; McKeesport Tubular Operations in McKeesport, Pa.; and Texas Operations Division in Lone Star, Texas.
Barshick, 39, started his career at U. S. Steel in 1993 as a co-op student at the company's Mon Valley Works near Pittsburgh. From 1995, when he joined the company full time, until 2006, he advanced through a series of increasingly responsible positions at Mon Valley Works' Pittsburgh-area facilities: steelmaking operations at Edgar Thomson Plant; rolling operations at Irvin Plant; and finishing operations at Fairless Plant. In 2008, he advanced to division manager of coke and iron production at U. S. Steel Canada's Lake Erie Works. He was appointed to his most recent position, plant manager at Fairfield Tubular Operations in Fairfield, Ala., in 2009.
Originally from Washington, Pa., Barshick graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Materials Science. He and his wife, Joleen, and their children will relocate to the Pittsburgh area.
