BANGOR, Maine, Nov. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul has repurposed an old property that housed machinery and printing companies to make moving products and services more convenient to residents of Bangor and surrounding communities.
U-Haul Moving and Storage of Outer Hammond opened recently and is located on nearly eight acres at 415 Odlin Road, just off Interstate 95 at exit 182B.
"It makes it much easier access from the highway," general manager Dave Martin said. "With our new signage, people know we are here to serve their storage needs."
The U-Haul store offers a full line of inventory for the do-it-yourself mover including, truck and trailer rentals. If all goes as planned, a current staff of four U-Haul Team Members will expand to 11 and a building will be added to meet additional storage needs. The two buildings on site total 30,100 square feet.
"We will have a complete hitch bay ready to install seven days a week, and if plans move as we think, we will be adding a total of 630 storage units," Martin said. "We hope to start construction on storage in the original building by the end of this year, which will give us more than 300 storage units when completed with indoor loading areas and also an outside dock, along with 24-hour access for customer convenience.
"In spring 2016, we hope to break ground on a new building to add another 300 storage units with drive-up storage, more inside rooms and a warehouse to hold more than 200 U-Box containers. We also are looking forward to having propane in the near future."
The acquisition of the Bangor facility was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
The facility was originally home to Houghton-Arnold Machinery, a Caterpillar® dealer, dating back to 1956. In the 1980s, Bacon Printing Company moved into the building.
