ORANGE, N.J., Jan. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul Company's recent acquisition and adaptive reuse of an abandoned moving and storage warehouse has Orange residents pleased with the reduction in blight and the convenience of having another full-service U-Haul store in Essex County.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Orange at 225 Scotland Road is now offering a range of U-Haul products and services including: truck and trailer rentals, storage units, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers, truck sales, towing equipment, moving supplies, boxes and more.
"We are done with construction, but we have in mind the possibility of expanding out the back of the building to include more storage and a bigger U-Box warehouse," general manager Bemilton Suero said.
The two-acre property was once home to one of the first Lincoln Mayflower Moving & Storage warehouses. The original building, constructed in 1903, has been overhauled inside and out. The 64,708-square-foot space was renovated to include a U-Haul showroom, U-Box storage, heated self-storage and climate-controlled self-storage.
U-Haul added to the property in November by purchasing a small parcel of abutting land at 476 Codner Street, which includes a house. Plans for the space are undecided, though it may be used to provide additional parking and improved store visibility.
U-Haul began operations from a trailer at the location in late 2013 while renovations took place. Its first storage units were available for rent last April.
"Sixty percent of the storage units have been rented in less than a year, and everybody loves this location," said Anthony Paladino, U-Haul Company of Northern New Jersey president. "It's a big plus for the community."
"We are working hard to make the building and surrounding area shine," Suero said. "U-Haul means family. We've employed a good amount of people from Orange and the surrounding area. We will continue to bring more people into our family and treat our customers right."
The acquisition of U-Haul Moving & Storage of Orange was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul® supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.
