PHOENIX, June 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Over the past 10 days, U-Haul International, Inc., the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, has been counting down the Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities of 2014 via @uhaul on Twitter. Today, the No. 1 destination was revealed.
According to moving data reflective of nationwide statistics for 2014 calendar year, Houston earned the No. 1 spot for a sixth consecutive year.
Chicago was No. 2, having moved up from fourth the previous year, and Las Vegas landed third for the second year in a row. San Antonio and Orlando ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Brooklyn, Austin, Philadelphia, Kansas City and Sacramento rounded out the top 10.
The rankings reflect the top destinations for one-way U-Haul truck rentals and take into account every city, regardless of size. The data is not stated as a percentage of population and is not reflective of overall growth, though destination statistics are a strong indicator as to how well cities are attracting new residents.
The U-Haul migration trends report was compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions occurring during 2014.
"The Top 10 U.S. Destination Cities countdown offered people a way to interact with us on social media as we pay tribute to the great cities that are welcoming a large number of do-it-yourself movers," stated John (J.T.) Taylor, president of U-Haul International, Inc.
"U-Haul migration data is among the most sought-after information we release," he added. "Through our new online city packages, we were able to announce this news and highlight these popular destinations like never before."
