RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul Company of Raleigh announced the closing of a longtime repair shop at 3001 Capital Blvd. Today marks its final day of operations.
U-Haul marketing company president Paul Smedberg noted that the presence of a larger repair shop in the neighboring city of Wake Forest has eliminated the need for the 19-year-old Raleigh shop, which served primarily for preventive maintenance work on trucks and trailers. The shop employed 48 U-Haul Team Members.
The need for more space to perform operations was a key reason for the shop closing, Smedberg said. Local U-Haul Companies sometimes close stores and repair shops for reasons such as physical plant limitations; long-term strategic plans; shifts in demographics; trends in migration; expansion of the U-Haul neighborhood dealer network; and the proximity to new or existing U-Haul stores.
"We're not selling the Raleigh shop – that 8,000 square feet will be put to good use," Smedberg said. "It will be used to expand our self-storage product to better serve our customers at U-Haul Moving & Storage at Capital Boulevard."
U-Haul is hiring for positions at its Wake Forest facility at 9701 Capital Blvd. When the 20,000-square-foot repair shop is at full capacity, it will employ roughly double the Team Members of the Raleigh shop.
