HHRD mobilized its resources and, as one of the first relief organizations on the ground, was able to assess the situation at hand. HHRD relief work addressed the situation by gauging what was needed to facilitate survival and followed this with the necessary skills and training of the victims in order for them to ensure a secure future for themselves.
HHRD set out to rebuild Haiti by constructing 102 permanent shelters. Moreover, doctors from Indonesia, Pakistan, the United States and local Haitians worked round the clock to tend to the wounded. Six rotational clinics were being operated in the most remote areas with little or no medical help. These Medical Clinics treated more than 2,000 people per week and vaccinations were provided to hundreds of men, women and children. Over $160,000 worth of medication was administered to over 11,000 patients.
HHRD has also initiated its Orphan Sponsorship/Support program in the region to address the concerns of the large number of children who are left without parents. Furthermore, the immediate need for clean water in the area promoted HHRD to build a well as part of its Water for Life program in the town of Miragoane. Lastly, HHRD was able to provide 30 college students with the opportunity to volunteer during their spring break in its Youth for Haiti program. These students received hands on experience with regards to emergency relief work, medical assistance and home construction.
HHRD is a global humanitarian organization responding to human sufferings in emergency and disastrous situations all over the world regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class and religion. We also have partners ranging from small community support groups to national alliances along with our international networks. HHRD is a 4 star Charity Navigator non-profit and accredited by the BBB.
