Two National Guardsmen to Receive New State Military Medal
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Wesley Craig will award the first two recipients of the Pennsylvania National Guard Major Octavius V. Catto Medal during a ceremony at noon on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Union League of Philadelphia, 140 S. Broad St., Philadelphia.
The award honors Guard members who distinguish themselves as leaders through community support and public service. The new state military medal is named after a Civil War-era Pennsylvania militia officer and civil rights leader killed in 1871 while on duty defending African-Americans voting in Philadelphia.
