Two G4S Security Officers Receive Top Award for Bravery and Professionalism

JUPITER, Fla., June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- G4S, America's leading security company, announces the winners of its annual Security Officer of the Year Award, the highest honor for security professionals. For the first time, two G4S Officers are receiving this top accolade.

G4S Officers Alexander Abaunza, Port St. Lucie, Florida and Jeff Demerath, St. Louis, Missouri, are being honored for their professionalism and bravery during separate incidents in 2013.  Each proved themselves to be everyday heroes and exemplified the qualities of a G4S Custom Protection Officer ®.

Officer Alexander Abaunza pulled a man from a burning car after it crashed inside a gated community where he patrols. The G4S Officer risked his own safety when he pulled the driver out of the vehicle. Abaunza's bravery gave the man the best chance at survival. Unfortunately, the driver's heart attack ended his life.

Officer Jeff Demerath helped police with information leading to the arrest of a child rapist.  Demerath stopped a suspicious car in a school parking lot where the driver claimed he was a tennis instructor and the teenager in the back seat was his student. Feeling something was not right, Demarath called the police. After an investigation, the man was arrested and charged with sex crimes. Given the nature of the alleged offenses, it is likely that Demerath's actions prevented other children from harm.
