Two DNV GL Sustainability Customers Win Climate Leadership Awards
HOUSTON, Feb. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The sustainability advisory services division of DNV GL – Business Assurance is proud to announce that two customers have been named winners of 2015 EPA Climate Leadership Awards.
"These achievements reflect the mainstreaming of carbon reduction strategies and other sustainability initiatives among US businesses," says Dave Knight, Director of USA and Canada Sustainability for DNV GL – Business Assurance.
DNV GL is a leading provider of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions verification and related services that enable companies to prove their climate and sustainability efforts are working. DNV GL holds accreditation through ANSI to provide GHG validation and verification services across many sectors and project types.
The two DNV GL customers winning Climate Leadership Awards are:
Chevrolet Clean Energy Campus Campaign
Chevrolet wins an Award for Innovative Partnerships for its Chevrolet Clean Energy Campus Campaign. The program was launched in 2013 with a mission to reduce carbon emissions on college campuses in America. DNV GL, through its relationship with Campaign stakeholder Bonneville Environmental Foundation, provides emissions validation of the campus-based projects using the Voluntary Carbon Standard, the world's most widely used voluntary GHG reduction program.
DNV GL is now working on verifying 2014 emissions reductions from the range of initiatives the campuses have adopted.
Sprint
Sprint is a co-winner of the Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management (Goal Achievement Award) for achieving absolute reduction in GHG emissions of 29 percent in 2013, exceeding its goal of 20 percent annual reduction. These results flow from Sprint's redesign of its cellular and IT networks to dramatically reduce electricity consumption, along with aggressive use of software to monitor and reduce electricity consumption in its data centers and offices.
DNV GL verified Sprint's 2013 GHG emissions and water use reductions.
In addition, Sprint uses the GHG reduction data verified by DNV GL as part of its companywide carbon reporting to the CDP, a non-profit organization leading worldwide efforts to collect and share verified carbon data.
"Initiatives like the Chevrolet Clean Energy Campus Campaign and Sprint's ambitious GHG emissions reductions goals provide a clear demonstration of what can be achieved quite quickly as part of a transition to a low carbon economy," says Mr. Knight. "These projects not only put the organizations onto a path of longer term emissions reductions but also save them money and help make them more efficient. We are delighted to have been chosen as the trusted 3rd party that can help provide confidence in the outcomes of these initiatives."
