NEW YORK, April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Mutual of America is pleased to announce that it will recognize Compass Family Services (CFS) and Twitter for their partnership and work at the Twitter NeighborNest – a diverse community creating new possibilities through technology and a love for learning – during a special luncheon and award presentation at Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco today at 12:00 p.m.
The Twitter NeighborNest was named a national award recipient in the Mutual of America 2018 Community Partnership Award competition, which received entries from organizations throughout the U.S. The program was launched in 2016 to help bridge a growing barrier to financial and housing stability – the digital divide. This family-friendly technology center provides parents and children with a place to access computers and learn basic technology skills in a supportive environment.
"Through the Community Partnership Award, Mutual of America is proud to recognize, support and help extend the reach of vital partnerships such as the one between Compass Family Services and Twitter, to create innovative and effective solutions like the Twitter NeighborNest that help those in need," said John R. Greed, Chairman, President and CEO of Mutual of America.
The NeighborNest provides tools and resources – including free childcare – to help underserved families search for and obtain housing and employment, stay current with school assignments and maintain personal and professional relationships. Family members can take computer classes and workshops, and participate in English-language tutorials, among other activities. CFS also offers childcare providers and a case manager who oversees workshops, classes and drop-in lab hours, while Twitter provides grant funding, staff members who jointly operate and oversee the NeighborNest, and employee volunteers.
"Since its inception, the @NeighborNest has enabled Twitter and our employees to engage with our neighbors in San Francisco in a way that bridges digital divides and builds authentic community," said Colin Crowell, Vice President of Policy and Philanthropy at Twitter. "We are delighted to collaborate with Compass Family Services as an anchor partner in our work – they drive meaningful impact for thousands of homeless families and the NeighborNest simply wouldn't be the same without them."
Erica Kisch, Executive Director of Compass Family Services, noted: "Our partnership with Twitter has enabled us to create a space where the less fortunate in our community can explore the internet and access the information and tools they need to assist them out of homelessness. In just three years, we have hosted more than 4,500 visits by parents and children, and provided more than 400 hours of childcare and nearly 200 group sessions and educational workshops."
