Twitter Co-Founder Headlines 2011 TMA Annual Convention
CHICAGO, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Biz Stone, who helped establish the real-time, social networking site cast in a pivotal role during recent political uprisings in the Middle East, will present the keynote address at the 2011 Turnaround Management Association Annual Convention, October 25-27, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
Founded in 2007, Twitter is the San Francisco-based company that birthed the Tweet –information updates 140 characters in length – and claims more than 200 million registered users and a daily output of 155 million Tweets.
Stone began his professional career as an artist and directed his creative bent to the enterprise of developing large-scale digital systems that let people communicate with one another. During a broadcast interview about Twitter's role in Mideast political events, Stone said, open exchange of information can have a positive global impact.
Last year Stone received the International Center for Journalism's first Innovation Award in recognition of Twitter's role in spawning new ways to break news. Inc. magazine named him Entrepreneur of the Decade, while TIME magazine listed him among the world's 100 most influential people. Stone, an Oxford University associate fellow and a Yale visiting scholar, also earned the moniker, Nerd of the Year, from GQ.
Stone is an advisor to startups, nonprofits and publicly-traded companies. Most recently, he joined AOL Inc. to work on social impact projects as part of the Web portal's merger with the Huffington Post, the news site that named Stone and his wife "game changers" for their philanthropic and public service work. Stone sports low-key sartorial style as he espouses "a new way of doing business with a higher level of ambition, and a better, more altruistic way to measure success."
