Twin Cities Habitat Takes First Steps Toward Construction of Their New Home

Demolition of existing building makes room for new headquarters in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn., Aug. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity will begin preparing the location of its new headquarters this summer. The building, which will be located at the southeast corner of Prior Avenue and University Avenue in St. Paul, will be an inviting space for Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to serve families and engage partners in its mission. Demolition of the current building on this site will begin on Monday, August 13 as the first phase of work to prepare the space to break ground for the new building. The official groundbreaking will occur in the first half of 2013. Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity anticipates moving staff into the new building in late 2013, with full operations scheduled for early 2014.

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity's new headquarters will serve as the home of Habitat's five programs and support expanded engagement with homeowners, volunteers and partners. The project is being funded by a capital campaign, A New Home for Habitat, supported by local individuals, foundations and corporations.

In the past 25 years, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has served more than 7,000 families. Over the next three years, Habitat will serve an additional 5,800 families. The new headquarters will help Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity reach this goal of serving more families through homeownership, home repair services, homebuyer/homeowner education, mortgage foreclosure prevention and public policy advocacy on housing issues.

The new location will be easily accessible via light rail upon completion of the Central Corridor transit line, scheduled for 2014. The light rail route, which will run from St. Paul to Minneapolis, has a planned transit stop one block from Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity's new headquarters.
