Twenty-Eight Minnesota Hospitals Win Latest Patient Safety Awards
Sixth round of winners named in ongoing program to prevent adverse health events
ST. PAUL, Minn., March 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Twenty-eight Minnesota hospitals won a total of 33 awards in the Minnesota Hospital Association's latest round of Patient Safety Excellence Awards.
The awards honor organizations' efforts to prevent pressure ulcers, or bedsores; falls; wrong-site invasive procedures; and foreign objects retained during labor and delivery.
The hospital association's safety campaigns -- SAFE SKIN, SAFE from FALLS, SAFE SITE, SAFE COUNT and SAFE ACCOUNT -- are based on national and state best practices and on participating hospitals' sharing of information about adverse health events that occurred at their facilities.
To qualify for an award, hospitals must implement at least 90 percent of each campaign's required measures. One such measure, for instance, requires the hospital to consistently verify the information about all procedures about to be performed immediately before beginning every surgery.
This month's honorees are the sixth round of winners in the program that began in spring 2008. See list of winners here: http://www.mnhospitals.org/inc/data/docs/MHA-PSawards3-29-10.doc.
