LONDON, October 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
TV Licensing took home the silver award for 'Best Corporate Website' at the second annual Digital Impact Awards on Thursday, 20 October 2011. It's another landmark in a successful year for the TV Licensing website, which has been nominated for a number of other awards in 2011 including BIMA, CorpComms DigiAwards, Blades and DADI*.
The TV Licensing website, having undergone continual improvement since its redesign two years ago, provides a more interactive way of buying and updating your licence details, making the process much quicker and easier. The new functionality has contributed to a 45 per cent increase in web visitors and last year 2.3 million people chose to purchase their licence online. In September 2011 alone the website was visited by over 1 million individuals, sold over a quarter of a million licences (a third of all sales) and completed over 400,000 web transactions.
The new features of the site have helped to improve efficiency and reduce the costs of licence fee collection, allowing more money to be put into BBC programmes and services. Total licence income last year (2010/11) was £3.7 billion - an increase of £99 million on the previous year.
Garry Cappuccini, Web Operations Manager for BBC TV Licensing, said:
Our aim is to make the process of buying a licence, updating your details, obtaining information or getting in touch with TV Licensing as simple as possible. It has been very pleasing to see people increasingly turn to the website as their first port of call for anything relating to their TV Licence and to have received recognition from the Digital Impact Awards panel.
The award ceremony, which is organised by Communicate magazine and celebrates best practice in digital communications, took place at the Grange Hotel in St Paul's, London, in front of 400 attendees.
