TV Goes LTE: Innovative LTE HDMI Dongle Enables TV Broadcast on Large U.S. Carrier's LTE Network
Altair Semiconductor, D-Link and Roundbox Develop First-Ever LTE eMBMS HDMI Dongle
LAS VEGAS, September 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
D-Link, a global leader in connectivity for home, small business, enterprise, and service providers, Roundbox http://www.dlink.com/, a leading provider of cloud-enabled solutions and software that optimize video & data intensive applications for connected devices, and Altair Semiconductor, the world's leading developer of high-performance, single-mode LTE chipsets, announced today the development of the world's first LTE eMBMS-enabled HDMI dongle that is compatible with a leading U.S. carrier's 4G LTE network. The dongle gives consumers access to a wider range of online content by enabling wireless reception of high definition video content over the LTE network.
LTE's eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) standard allows the same content to be sent to many subscribers simultaneously, resulting in a much more efficient use of content providers resources than the traditional method of streaming content to individual subscribers.
"Using the right mix of LTE technologies and product design experience, we were able to develop this innovative eMBMS HDMI dongle and demonstrate a great user experience on the LTE network," said Eran Eshed, Co-Founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Altair. "The announcement of this consumer grade product finally brings the promise of video broadcast over LTE to life."
"Committed to moving forward using enhanced LTE technology, D-Link is delighted to collaborate with its partners to develop the eMBMS HDMI dongle," said GK Lee, VP of Mobile Service Provider Business Unit at D-Link. "This product showcases the capability of D-Link as an innovative technology leader that values user experience and great product design."
This first-of-its-kind dongle device demonstrates the power of the Roundbox Services Platform and eMBMS middleware to provide a reliable, efficient and scalable solution for launching applications and services leveraging LTE Multicast," added Doug Dominiak, vice present of product management at Roundbox.
