TV Fans Can Vote for Their Favorite Cable Shows in Channel Guide Magazine's Viewer's Voice Awards
GLENDALE, Wis., Aug. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Channel Guide Magazine, the print and online publication from Tribune Media Services dedicated to making finding what to watch on TV fast, fun and entertaining, has published the ballot for its first-annual Viewer's Voice Awards. Fans across the country can now cast their votes for the best and worst in cable TV in a variety of unusual categories. What's the best laugh-out-loud comedy on cable TV? What's scarier, The Walking Dead or American Horror Story? Is Urine Drinker the most outrageous program title of the year?
Nominees have been selected and the official ballot posted at channelguidemag.com. TV fans are encouraged to vote as often as they want until the poll closes at midnight ET on Friday, August 31. The winners will be featured online and in a special November issue of the magazine.
"Nominees were selected from the favorites identified in our annual reader survey," said Barb Oates, Editor in Chief of Channel Guide. "We've created categories around these shows and also added celebrity categories to make it more fun."
Oates said plenty of categories are tongue-in-cheek and designed to make people smile in agreement or get wide-eyed in amazement. Fans may be shocked to learn, for example, that adult breastfeeding was actually the topic of an episode of Strange Sex.
The "Best Wars Series" category doesn't judge the merits of military conflicts — it allows viewers to pick the best among shows like TLC's Craft Wars, Food Network's Cupcake Wars, Discovery Channel's Property Wars, A&E's Parking Wars, Shipping Wars and Storage Wars, and Animal Planet's Swamp Wars and Whale Wars.
The awards ballot also looks at popular culture-study series like Meet the Hutterites, Amish: Out of Order, My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding, Shahs of Sunset and Sister Wives.
Some traditional categories are also included with a uniquely interesting twist. Best Drama, for example, has been refined a bit to Best "Period-Piece" Drama, calling attention to some of cable's critically praised favorites like Boardwalk Empire, The Borgias and Mad Men, as well as some freshmen series like Hell on Wheels and Magic City.
There are 25 categories in total. Top vote-getters in each category will be deemed winners.
