TÜV Rheinland Issues Four Certificates Including Color Accuracy and Eye Comfort to XREAL Air 2 AR Glasses
SHANGHAI, Oct. 24, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- XREAL has officially introduced and opened for pre-orders the latest XREAL Air 2 and XREAL Air 2 Pro AR glasses in the United States and United Kingdom. The two products have been awarded four certificates from TÜV Rheinland Greater China, for the AR products' Color Accuracy, Eye Comfort, Low Blue Light, and Flicker Free, demonstrating the excellent performance of the XREAL Air 2 and XREAL Air 2 Pro in terms of eye health and user experience.
AR glasses provide an immersive experience that integrates the virtual world with the real world for wearers. In recent years, with the rapid evolution of AR technology and the maturation of the industry, AR glasses have come to be widely used in many fields, such as audio-visual entertainment, video games, medical treatment, and industrial design.
Many considerations go into producing functional and comfortable AR glasses. Notably, AR glasses are a near-eye display technology that must control the proportion of high-energy, visible blue light radiation and screen flicker in low-brightness settings to reduce visual fatigue during use. As form meets function, the optical system must provide accurate and stable image content for the wearer's eyes, while special attention must be paid to the wearing comfort of the glasses. In addition, the glasses are required to be ergonomically designed to minimize discomfort during prolonged wear. TÜV Rheinland has conducted both subjective and objective analyses on the blue light, flicker, and wearing comfort of XREAL Air 2 and XREAL Air 2 Pro AR glasses. The results show that they meet the Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Eye Comfort (AR) certification requirements.
Furthermore, as AR glasses gradually become more versatile in their application scenarios, people are pursuing higher color accuracy for whatever they are viewing. According to TÜV Rheinland's color accuracy certification requirements, XREAL Air 2 and XREAL Air 2 Pro AR glasses have attained an industry-leading level by achieving an average color accuracy of ∆E2000<3 in the sRGB color gamut with 125 colors in a dark room. This indicates that this series of XREAL AR glasses can truly present colors providing wearers with a more realistic, immersive experience. At the same time, TÜV Rheinland scrutinized the calibration procedures of the XREAL production line. Each pair of glasses undergoes uniform color calibration before leaving the factory to ensure mass production quality consistency.
In regard to the certifications, Peng Jin, Co-Founder of XREAL, says, "XREAL and TÜV Rheinland are pioneers and innovators in our respective professional fields. For the emerging AR glasses market, we look forward to jointly exploring a high-standard certification system to promote a standardized and clear experience pertaining to XR products, thus bringing better products to consumers. TÜV Rheinland has always been known for its rigorous and high-quality testing and certification services. Our first generation XREAL Air became the world's first AR product to obtain TÜV Rheinland's Eye Comfort Certification. The XREAL Air 2 series is assuming another leading role in the XR industry by obtaining TÜV Rheinland's Color Accuracy Certification for the first time, which is attributable to our unremitting efforts in product display quality and eye comfort. In the future, XREAL will continue to improve display performance and remain committed to developing beautiful, professional, and comfortable AR products that support eye health."
Jay Yang, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Electrical, says, "We are very pleased to see XREAL's achievements in the visual health and user experience of AR glass display technology, especially in terms of color calibration. In order to ensure that mass-produced products have consistent color reproduction capabilities, XREAL adds verification procedures for each product. This is a big test for the modern digital industry, where production efficiency is of paramount importance. The outstanding performance of XREAL Air 2 and Air 2 Pro AR glasses shows XREAL's confidence and capabilities. TÜV Rheinland has been conducting technical research and standard development in the field of AR/VR since 2019, aiming to help the industry pursue higher display performance and a better user experience through multidimensional certification for AR products. We are dedicated to fostering more innovation in and expanding the possibilities of the AR ecosystem, driving industry development and providing a healthier and more comfortable experience for consumers."
Having been deeply involved in the field of consumer electronics for more than 20 years, TÜV Rheinland has launched Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, Eye Comfort, Full Care Display, Dynamic Privacy Filter, Paper Like Display, Youth Care, Circadian Friendly, and other standards and certifications for multifarious products. It has been devoted to guiding the industry to continuously improve technology and achieve better performance. In the future, TÜV Rheinland and XREAL will continue to strengthen their cooperation, promote technological innovation and standard improvement, and lead the high-quality development of the AR industry.
