OAKLAND, Calif., April 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Turnitin, the leader in originality checking and online grading, today announced Plagiarism Education Week April 22-26, an initiative to call attention to plagiarism in the classroom from the perspective of educators and students. Turnitin has partnered with prestigious organizations dedicated to addressing plagiarism as sponsors for the event, including the International Center for Academic Integrity (ICAI), Plagiarism Today, and The School for Ethical Education (SEE).

With a theme of "Originality Matters," the week of activities will center on daily webcasts with prominent experts addressing plagiarism using a progressive concept: causes, types, responses and approaches. Attendees will receive access to new studies, white papers and giveaways released by Turnitin during the week. In addition, Plagiarism.org, a resource site for students, will conduct a poster design competition for students. Judges from sponsoring organizations will choose the best entry that reflects the "Originality Matters" theme. The winner will receive a cash prize of one thousand dollars.

The Plagiarism Spectrum Drill Down with Renee Swensen, professor at Saddleback College, discussing the most frequent types of plagiarism instructors encounter.

Responding to Plagiarism: Lesson Plans and Strategies with Lynn Lampert from California State University - Northridge and author of "Combating Student Plagiarism: An Academic Librarian's Guide."

Policy to Practice: Developing Effective Academic Integrity Policies with Teresa Fishman, director of ICAI.

Teaching Originality, Creativity, and Critical Thinking with Kelly McBride, Senior Faculty, Ethics, Reporting & Writing at The Poynter Institute
