'Turnitin' achieves record renewal rates and highest levels of customer satisfaction in company history
OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- iParadigms, creators of Turnitin and the leader in originality checking and plagiarism prevention, today announced record customer growth and product adoption for its services in 2010, with more than one million instructors and 20 million students using the Turnitin service. The company also realized the highest levels of customer satisfaction in company history and a record renewal rate from existing customers.
Turnitin's success was propelled by a growing recognition of the need to confront plagiarism in the digital age, new product innovation that allows instructors and students to engage more effectively to improve the writing process, and expanded international demand for Turnitin services.

Customer Growth in Secondary and Higher Education
- Close to 5,000 secondary institutions worldwide now use Turnitin, including 56 percent of the top 100 high schools listed on U.S. News and World Report's America's Best High Schools.
- More than 2,500 higher education institutions use Turnitin, including 69 percent of the top 100 colleges and universities in the U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges list.
Product Innovation and Recognition
- The introduction of Turnitin2 which allows for OriginalityCheck Plagiarism Prevention, PeerMark Peer Reviewing, and GradeMark Digital Markup and Grading to be managed in a single unified view of students' fully formatted papers. To date, two-thirds of existing customers have moved to the new version.
- Turnitin teamed with Educational Testing Service (ETS) to integrate its e-rater® Scoring Engine technology with Turnitin's GradeMark online paperless grading tools that allows instructors to mark and comment on student papers.
- Turnitin was recognized as a winner of the 2010 Tech & Learning Awards of Excellence. The service was also named a CODiE Award finalist.
International Expansion
- iParadigms formed iParadigms Europe Ltd with the acquisition of long-time Turnitin United Kingdom partner, nLearning, to meet demand for its services in markets outside the United States and Canada.
- Turnitin partnered with Language Weaver's automated translation technology to identify potentially plagiarized content that has been translated from English into other languages.
