Turner Construction San Diego and T.B. Penick & Sons Break Ground on Two Bachelor Enlisted Quarters at Camp Pendleton
Turner & Penick Commence Construction on Packages 4 and 7 at Marine Corps Base
SAN DIEGO, April 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, San Diego and T.B. Penick & Sons, Inc. are pleased to announce that they completed the third groundbreaking ceremony last week for Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs) Package 4 and Package 7 at Camp Pendleton. The design-build team hosted groundbreaking ceremonies for the two $100 million projects on February 11, March 3, and March 31, 2010. Both projects, which are anticipated to receive LEED Gold certification, are part of a multi-billion dollar expansion at the military base that is bringing thousands of jobs to the area.
Package 4, which broke ground on February 11, consists of four major BEQ structures on two sites, and will house 1,384 marines. This package includes two exterior pavilions, two exterior amphitheaters, four community buildings, new parking, three bike shelters, a 1,600 sq. ft. physical training area, and 12 BBQ/picnic structures. This package also includes renovations to three existing buildings including office spaces; a classroom; a guard bunk; locker rooms; mechanical, electrical, and telecom rooms; and an armory. The estimated cost is $103,725,091, and is expected to be complete August 2011.
Package 7, which hosted groundbreaking ceremonies on March 3 and March 31, also includes four major BEQ structures on two sites, and will house over 1,500 marines. Package 7 will also feature an exterior pavilion, two exterior amphitheaters, four community buildings, a 1,600 sq. ft. physical training area, four picnic areas, three bike shelters, a repelling tower, off-site parking, and an expansion to a sewer treatment plant. The estimated cost is $109,578,253, and is anticipated to be complete August 2011. Both Package 4 and Package 7 BEQs were designed by MVE Institutional Inc. and Vasquez Marshall Architects.
These two new BEQs are part of an approximately $3 billion expansion at Camp Pendleton. Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and awarded by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest, other Camp Pendleton projects include a new hospital, photovoltaic charging stations, new BEQs, and demolition or renovations to existing facilities.
