PARIS, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Turkey is significantly increasing its presence at MAPIC 2010 with 48 retail and retail real estate companies set to attend* compared to 23 at the same period last year. With 22 exhibitors already signed up, Turkey makes its entry into the list of top 10 exhibiting countries and will host a dozen retail brands in a dedicated national pavilion.
Based on IMF forecasts, The Wall Street Journal** recently reported that Turkey is currently one of the fastest developing European economies and is expected to grow by 3.7% this year. Its very young population, lured by the consumption patterns of Western countries, encourages industry professionals to build the very latest-generation shopping centres in Turkey.
The growing interest of Turkish companies for MAPIC confirms this trend, as Nathalie Depetro, Director of MAPIC, says: "When Turkey was MAPIC's Country of Honour in 2008, we highlighted the potential of this market among international players. Since then, Turkish professionals have confirmed their interest in and loyalty to the event, with a strong desire to open up internationally."
As a spokesman for TURQUALITY®, the government-sponsored agency that promotes overseas development for Turkish companies explains: "With more than 66 countries represented, MAPIC is a fast and efficient platform for meeting future partners, examining franchise opportunities, finding out about various markets and launching new projects. MAPIC is a unique opportunity for TURQUALITY® companies and we hope that it acts as a stepping stone for their development strategy."
For three days, Turkey will be showcased in the exhibition area and in the conference programme. Retailers such as the luxury brand Zen Diamond, clothing and fashion brands Colins, Damat, Tween, and the DIY brand Koctas, will be attending MAPIC for the first time. Retail real estate professionals including developers such as Renaissance Development and Turkmall, the architects Iki Design Group and Oncuoglu Architecture, or the investment group Zorlu Property have already confirmed their presence.
