WASHINGTON, July 1, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Turkish Heritage Organization (THO) announced today the expansion of its Advisory Board to include four specialists in international and U.S.-Turkey relations. Joining the THO are Andrew Bacevich of Boston University, Michael Gunter of Tennessee Technological University, Robert Olson of the University of Kentucky, and Edward Erickson of the Marine Corps University. These experts bring important perspectives to the issues most important to the THO – from trade and energy to security and humanitarian issues.
Andrew J. Bacevich, Professor of History and International Relations emeritus at Boston University, brings to the THO Advisory Board a deep understanding of the history of American diplomacy in the region. His expertise on American militarism and foreign policy will further complement the Advisory Board with a U.S. perspective on Turkish issues.
The THO also welcomes contributors to the establishment of Kurdish studies in the U.S. to its Advisory Board. Michael M. Gunter, Professor of Political Science at Tennessee Technological University and Secretary-General of the EU Turkey Civic Commission (EUTCC), has taught and written extensively about Middle Eastern politics, particularly Kurdish politics. He joins colleague Robert Olson, Professor Emeritus of Middle East History and Politics at the University of Kentucky, also a specialist in Kurdish Studies and the co-author with Gunter of numerous books and essays.
A fourth addition to the Advisory Board is Dr. Edward Erickson, Professor of Military History at the Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University. Dr. Erickson brings a unique view to the THO, having served three tours in Turkey as a Foreign Area Officer with the U.S. Army.
"We are delighted to have members with such extensive knowledge on Turkey and the Middle East region and we are very grateful that these researchers have lent their expertise to the THO," said Halil Danismaz, President of the THO. "I am certain our Board will continue to provide exceptional insight to the issues that we care about and about the future of U.S.-Turkey relations."
