TuneCore Artist Silento Goes Viral
Hit song "Watch Me" leads to a new dance craze
NEW YORK, April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A new internet phenomenon is emerging and he's called Silento. At only 17, TuneCore Artist Silento and his song "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" has skyrocketed from a single video posted on You Tube two months ago to nearly 21 million views and a total 35 million minutes watched. The single is a Hip-Hop/Rap hit, breaking into Billboard's March Hot 100 and still climbing at #69.
Most exciting is the unprecedented fan response. There are thousands of videos popping up on YouTube, Vine and Instagram each day of people dancing to his song -- teenage girls, street dancers, dads dancing with daughters and even sports mascots riding the "Watch Me" wave with Silento and his exploding fan base.
Silento has been confident from the beginning about how his song would connect with fans and said, "I already knew (it would be successful) before it was recorded because I had been singing it at school and dancing to it. People had been asking me to do it repeatedly, and you just know."
The success of "Watch Me" and the millions of views not only translates into celebrity status for Silento, it also means that he's going to make money as an independent artist. Silento and his producer, Bolo Da Producer, are working with TuneCore to collect all their eligible revenue from multiple channels. That means getting 100% of iTunes download revenue and money from the sound recordings on YouTube when ads have been placed on videos using their music. Adding to the revenue stream are the worldwide songwriter royalties TuneCore Music Publishing Administration will find and collect for them from 60 countries.
Scott Ackerman, TuneCore CEO, says this about Silento, "I can't tell you how rewarding it is to see what is happening to this young man and know that TuneCore has had a hand in working with him to get his music heard by more people around the world. Silento is a perfect example of what an independent artist can achieve if given the means and the tools to build a career."
