The 350,000 download milestone comes at a time when broadcast is rapidly shifting from traditional means of content delivery to streaming, which provides significant cost savings for broadcasters and has seen rapid adoption by consumers leaving their cable and satellite providers. Set-top-boxes that allow third party development, such as Roku and Google TV, have found their way into the living rooms thanks to the broad array of content they feature and the ease with which viewers can access it. Recent figures released have shown Roku as the leading platform for OTT television content, but Tulix noted in the announcement that the majority of its customers chose to make their content available through applications on both platforms, since each platform has a user-base of millions of viewers.
As content delivery has shifted towards internet-based devices, many broadcasters have looked towards new means of monetizing their content, including subscription- and pay-per-view-based models. In discussing the recent announcement, Nino Doijashvili, EVP of Tulix Systems said: "The experiences of our customers have shown that consumers are very willing to pay for content delivered via the internet and OTT applications. Tulix's billing and account management systems generate millions in annual revenue for the broadcasters using it, a very large and growing portion of which comes from mobile and set-top-boxes alone."
