Tulane's Youth Impact Program Kids Visit Super Bowl Champions Training Facility

NEW ORLEANS, July 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Riki Ellison, Chairman and Founder of  the Youth Impact Program (YIP) and a three time Super Bowl winner with the San  Francisco 49ers announced that more than 120 YIP campers got to visit the 2010  New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Champions training facility on Wednesday, July 21. "It was a thrill of a lifetime for these young men, and the Saints staff and two team members were gracious and inspired the boys," Ellison said.

This is the third year for Tulane to host the Youth Impact Program.  Lindsey Stineman heads the program this year, and has more than 12 student athletes from Tulane are assisting as mentors and counselors.  YIP invests in "at risk" below the poverty line young boys from 9 to 12 years old in a 4-week intense program through using Tulane University facilities, staff and student athletes and local  elementary teachers.

Jason Trosclair, Director of the Saints Youth Programs, was the host for the New  Orleans Saints.  There was discussion led by Lindsey Stineman about what it  takes to be a champion and how this dedication and hard work paid off for the  Saints last year as they won their first Super Bowl Championship against the Indiana Colts.  The trip included a tour of the facilities, motivational talks  by the Tulane staff,  discussion about film clips of the Super Bowl championship game, and meeting two members of the Saints Super Bowl Champions, Jermon Bushrod, left tackle and Carl Nicks, left guard.

Ellison is proud of the strides this year's YIP campers have made in terms of citizenship, scholarship and sportsmanship. The program provides food, clothing, transportation, mathematics, language arts, football and life skills development that include Anger Management, Conflict Resolution, drug education, and a spirit of fellowship.

The New Orleans Saints opened their doors and hearts to our young men from the inner city of  greater New Orleans.  They were spellbound and could not believe that they were  seeing one of the greatest facilities in all of professional football."

Ellison closed his remarks by thanking the NFL Youth Football Fund for their continued support of the YIP.  He also thanked the owner of the NFL Saints Rita Benson LeBlanc, and the Saints staff that made this day a special day for 120 inner city kids who are on their way to becoming better citizens because of their YIP participation and experience.

The Tulane YIP program has scheduled its closing ceremony for Friday, July 23  from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Ellison will be there to shake the hands of each young man.  Awards will be made for several categories, and parents and family will be  on hand to watch football games as the camp comes to an end.
