TSV, Inc. Advances Application for Ski Valley Base Village Revitalization
TAOS SKI VALLEY, N.M., March 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- TSV, Inc., the organization that represents Taos Ski Valley ski resort, has presented an application for a 'Conditional Use Permit' to the Village of Taos Ski Valley Planning & Zoning Board. With the permit, TSV, Inc. will be able to move forward with the next phase of revitalizing the base area as outlined in the Conceptual Master Plan, approved in 2012.
Under the permit, TSV, Inc. will be able to remove the Taos Ski and Boot structure and replace it with a new state-of-the-art facility that will provide space for ski rentals, ski school, ticket sales, retail and other businesses. Additionally, the building will provide 40 condominium units. TSV, Inc. plans to keep the existing building in place through the 2014-2015 season with demolition work beginning in the spring of 2015.
"We're acting swiftly to revitalize the base village area and have selected the building that houses most of our skier services, after carefully looking at several options. This is our strongest demonstration of a commitment towards both our visitors and stakeholders and will be in keeping with the alpine European character of Taos Ski Valley," noted Gordon Briner, COO of TSV, Inc. "The building is a hub for infrastructure, so this summer we'll be focused on working closely with both the Village and local businesses as we re-route and begin to upgrade many of those services."
A component of this proposed plan is the relocation of the skier drop-off to the west end of Thunderbird Road, and the creation of a pedestrian walkway to the base facility. Shops relocated from the Taos Ski and Boot structure will border the pedestrian walkway, creating a thriving business community in the Ski Valley.
Briner continued, "We are committed to providing a successful retail experience for our guests and will continue to support the business owners and stakeholders that are part of our community. This is a work in progress, but together we are rolling up our sleeves and making this vision beneficial for everyone."
