Dr. David Y.H. Pui, mechanical engineer professor at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
SHOREVIEW, Minn., March 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. David Y.H. Pui, mechanical engineer professor at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). The NAE is an independent, private, non-profit institution that provides engineering leadership in service to the nation. Induction into the organization is among the highest professional distinctions awarded to an engineer.
Dr. Pui, recognized for his recent efforts to battle worldwide air pollution issues—specifically in China—has a wide range of research experience in aerosol science and technology. He has obtained 23 granted patents and has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed journal papers. Having been employed at the University of Minnesota since the 1970s, Dr. Pui now serves as director of the University's Particle Technology Laboratory and the Center for Filtration Research.
Dr. Pui has served as the president for both the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) and the International Aerosol Research Assembly (IARA). In 1998, Dr. Mike Fingerson--one of the five founders of TSI--endowed a chair in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota, which is currently held by Dr. Pui. The chair is currently situated at TSI Headquarters.
"Dr. Pui, through the University of Minnesota, fostered a long and productive relationship with TSI, and this collaboration contributed greatly to TSI's commercial success over the years," said TSI President Tom Kennedy. "Beyond his many contributions to the field of aerosol science and advancements in aerosol measurement and instrumentation, Dr. Pui was truly visionary in his efforts to establish strong ties between academia and industry. This is one of the reasons that his election to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering is so well deserved."
This year, Dr. Pui is one of 80 new members that were elected to the NAE. Twenty-two foreign members were also inducted. Dr. Pui will be formally inducted on Oct. 9, 2016, at the NAE's Annual Meeting held in Washington, D.C.
