TSA Officers Union Recognizes Administrator John Pistole for his Service
Workers gained collective bargaining rights, first contract during Pistole's tenure
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to TSA's announcement today that Administrator John Pistole will retire from public service at year's end, American Federation of Government Employees National President J. David Cox, Sr. issued the following statement:
"AFGE thanks Administrator John Pistole for his four years of service to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Among other unprecedented achievements, Administrator Pistole acknowledged TSA workers' right to bargain collectively, allowing the workforce to exercise its voice, however limited, for the first time. During his tenure AFGE negotiated the first collective bargaining agreement for TSA employees, leading to advances in safety, working conditions, and morale.
"It is no simple job to keep the flying public safe and secure, but Administrator Pistole and the 45,000 TSOs he led have done so with remarkable success. We will continue to work with him in his remaining time at the agency on important pending issues like MSPB appeal rights for the TSOs we represent. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union, representing 670,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia including 45,000 Transportation Security Officers.
