HOUSTON, Aug. 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TruStar Energy, one of the nation's leading developers of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling stations, announced today that it has opened a company-branded public CNG fueling station at 2109 McCue Road in Houston, TX. The company's new station will help facilitate continued growth of natural gas as a transportation fuel in the Texas market. Recent data from the Texas Comptroller's office shows that Texas fleet operators are purchasing natural gas in record numbers—sale of the fuel has increased 78% over FY 2014.
"In Texas, there's a shift taking place in the commercial transportation sector to natural gas and rightfully so—it's domestically produced, abundant and has tremendous economic and environmental benefits over diesel," said Adam Comora, President of TruStar Energy. "Our new TruStar Energy CNG public fueling station in Houston will be a valuable resource for area fleets to operate more efficiently and profitably. This, in turn, will help spur the growth of this cleaner, alternative fuel in Texas."
TruStar Energy currently is constructing dozens of CNG stations across the country. Building on this success, the company has embarked on a strategy to open dozens of company-branded public CNG stations along high-traffic U.S. corridors over the next several years. TruStar Energy opened its first company-branded public fueling station in Orlando in July, a second station in Tulsa, OK earlier this month and now adds Houston to that growing list.
By aggressively expanding America's network of CNG fueling stations, the company is supporting the domestic energy economy, helping to lower carbon emissions and increase national energy security, while keeping jobs and revenues in the U.S.
"We have seen historical growth in Texas' natural gas industry over the past decade, and natural gas engine fuel is increasingly growing as a domestic market for this abundant resource," said David Porter, Chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission—the state's chief energy agency. "We're resolving the classic 'chicken and egg problem.' Fleets are buying more natural gas vehicles because we have more stations. And the more vehicles they buy, the more natural gas refueling stations get built. I applaud TruStar Energy's investment in Texas' CNG fueling infrastructure and want to thank them for helping power Texans and the Texas economy."
The new Houston TruStar Energy CNG station has two traffic lanes and two fast-fill fueling pumps, providing easy access for commercial vehicles and private CNG-powered consumer vehicles. The station is supplied by natural gas from Apache Corporation and accepts commercial fuel cards such as Comdata or Fuelman as well as all major credit cards.
Fleets that run on CNG have lower exhaust and carbon emissions compared to diesel and gasoline. CNG is also insulated from price volatility due to international conflicts and events, which in recent years has been responsible for dramatic price fluctuations for gasoline and diesel. Natural gas engines have an average of 80 percent to 90 percent lower decibel level than diesel engines.
